It would be great if someone would release this on DVD!

Summer Tunes

Time for another round up of summer tunes! Here’s what I’ve been bumping around the cabin this summer. Last summer was all about reggae and bluegrass. This summer I’ve returned to the beat. Come correct.
theRadioDept
Clinging to a Scheme – The Radio Dept.
Ok, say you’re cruising down the road to hit up a swimming hole on a hot summer’s day. Your besty asks you to play the most appropriate album (that came out this year) to soundtrack such a venture. If you do not play this record then you, Dr. Jones, have chosen poorly. Come correct.

gs
The Sound-Board Breathes – Gyratory System
I’ve been playing the shit out of this record for some reason. It’s borderline annoying at some points but oddly satisfying at the same time. If I opened a Tetris themed bar this would be the house band. Oh, the “Yowser Yowser Yowser” remixes are worth checking out as well. Try not dancing to that song. Come correct.

The-Crepes
What Else? – The Crêpes
I hated this record when it first came in the mail but damn if it didn’t grow on me. This is a side project of Dan Lissvik’s from Studio (another great summertime band) so I had high expectations. I think I mentally had to separate this record from Studio in order to just come correct and enjoy it on its own merit. Just chew some watermelon bubbleyum whilst listening and you’ll understand.

Maniac_Meat-Tobacco_480
Maniac Meat – Tobacco
I’ve hated everything since “Loser” that Beck has put out so I almost didn’t buy this record when I saw that he appeared on the second track. Yes Beck, I just can’t get enough of your dope-faced, arbitrary and incongruous lyrics. Anyway, Tobacco is essentially a Black Moth Super Rainbow record with more boom bap. This album….comes correct.

gayngs.3112
Relayted – Gayngs
It’s not 1994 anymore. Come correct with Gayngs and stop playing Dummy every time you bring home some art chic to make out with.

333
Splazsh – Actress
Add some minimalism and replace the psychedelia with trance and you’ve got yourself a Flying Lotus record…yes, this is a good thing. A summer record…in a bleak, Manchesterian rainy night kinda way. Like Eddie Rabbitt, I love a rainy night. WERKDISCS BOSSMAN COMES WITH CORRECTNESS. I know, these are really dumb reviews.

Long Distance – Onra
Patrickfork gives this a 3.141592653589793238462643
Bump this while creeping your customized 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am sports model (aka KITT) though the streets of Miami. Don’t forget yer white linen suit. Comparable to that latest Dam-Funk record but more enjoyable in my opinion.

RF4467643
In and Out and Back Again – Woven Bones
If you live in Austin, you play in a garage band. Everyone, whether or not they’re aware of the fact, plays in a garage band. I recently discovered that I’m in Shapes Have Fangs. I’m certain it was the result of some city ordinance. My friend Carolyn happens to play in Woven Bones. They are good.

Steve-Mason-Boys-Outside-505225
Boys Outside – Steve Mason
Yes, this is the Steve Mason from ye ol’ Beta Band. This record sounds like an adult contemporary album for 30-something Gen Xer’s but this somehow only makes it all the better. Steve Mason’s voice is an audible Snuggie.

grooves
Fox Trot Mannerisms – Pursuit Grooves
Do you want to like M.I.A. but prefer supporting acts that have integrity and talent? Well then, check out Vanese Smith aka Pursuit Grooves and her Fox Trot Mannerisms. She’s a doll and will not induce violent vomiting. She (wait for it…..wait for it…..) comes correct.

Here’s some more:
Blackjazz – Shining
Cosmogramma – Flying Lotus
Songs for Creatures – Psychonauts

Margarita Recipe

Calexico: Carried to Dust

Margarita!!!

So I’m not sure when this site became the imbiber’s blog (which is a good name for a blog) but I thought I’d go ahead and post another drink recipe…my Margarita recipe. It’s pretty standard really but this is exactly how I like to make them at the house.

Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Herradura Tequila 100% de Agave Blanco! (A little pricey but, listen here now, worth it.)
- 1 oz. Cointreau (Again, a little pricey but if you’re going to do something you might as well do it right!)
- Tsp. Agave nectar
- The juice of a lime or two depending on taste. (Always fresh lime juice…always.)

Directions:
Rinse off a highball glass and place in the freezer while you work. Put Calexico’s Carried to Dust on the HiFi. Fill a shaker ¾ the way full with crushed or bagged ice, no big-ass cubes. Poor in the Herradura (pause to take a small nip from the bottle), the Cointreau, agave nectar, and lime juice. Save one piece of a lime you cut in half for garnish later. Shake till the shaker frosts over. Poor into your chilled highball (you can salt the rim if you prefer) and plop the used half of lime in the center. Pretend it’s a little green island in the Margarita ocean.

Southern Baptist

The Southern Baptist
It’s summertime here in Austin, TX. Here, let me help you out…

THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST
(A refreshing beverage for a Southern Gentleman or Gentlewoman)

- Luzianne Sweet Tea
- Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Mint Leaves

First you are going to need to make your own sweet tea as there is no commercially pre-made sweet tea worth a darn. As far as I’m concerned Luzianne makes the best tea when it comes to making sweet tea.

Make yer tea!

2 quart size or 8 cup size Luzianne Tea bags
8 cups boiling water
1/2 to 1 cup sugar (the more the better)

Instructions:
Combine tea bags, water, and sugar in pitcher. Cover and steep for 20 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags. Chill. Makes 2 quarts.

Prepare the beverage:
Fill a mason jar full of ice. Pour the Rebel Yell about 1/4 to 1/2 the way up the glass. The more the better! Fill the remaining with your delicious sweet tea! Take a couple of mint leaves and slap them in the palm of your hand to get the aroma going and garnish your drink.

Tah-dah, enjoy your delicious summertime libation. As far as the congregation knows, you’re just enjoying a plain ol’ sweet tea fit for any teetotaler.

Father’s Day

Burger Graphic
Father’s Day is coming up! I’m going to have this little graphic I whipped up printed on an apron. Nice! Mmmmmm, I want a burger.

Walden Pond

Walden Pond
I finished reading Walden at Deep Eddy this weekend. This google map is kind of depressing in a way.

4 Walls

Painting Studio
If I were to ever build my own backyard painting studio or maybe even a small vacation hut somewhere, it would probably look a lot like this!
